I live in the pacific northwest with my wonderful wife and two Shih Tzu pups.
Like many authors, I write 'by the seat of my pants'. I love discovering the story myself as I write. That way I can be surprised at the outcome. I think if I am surprised, then the readers will be also!
I love books and I love reading. I always have. Since I read my first book so many decades ago, I have continued to be an avid reader. That book, Bond of the Fire, by Anthony Fon Eisen, is the story of a young boy and his wolf surviving in prehistoric times. It caught my attention and never let go.
Since then, I have read so many books that I have lost track. I have found myself gravitating mostly to Science Fiction and Fantasy. In High School, my best friend Karl introduced me to a book by someone called J.R.R. Tolkien, called The Hobbit. As I read that book for the first time, I was drawn into a world that I never wanted to leave.
After that, I read The Lord of the Rings and was completely blown away by the detail of that world. It had different races, and different cultures, each with their own complete languages and history. The characters were amazing as they fought the Dark Lord Sauron to prevent him from gaining the One Ring that would empower him to rule, then ultimately destroy, Middle Earth. You might say I am obsessive with Tolkien’s writings. I have collected multiple volumes of his works and will probably continue to do so. Of course, I can stop at any time—really, I can.
When I turned 50, I started to write. At first it was just a little poetry, and some short stories, most of which were only a few pages in length. Some of them I never even finished. I became frustrated by my own apparent inability to complete anything, and promised myself I would finish something. I buckled down and pushed aside all distractions and eventually finished a short story; a fairy tale about a sad princess that foolishly denied her true love for the false love of a wicked prince. I was so proud of myself that I finally accomplished something. I have continued writing in the years since then, and one day got up the courage to attempt a full novel.
What my book is about:
This is the story of a young girl, Katie Fate, who doesn’t like herself very much. To make things worse, the school bully is always harassing her. She loves the books her grandfather has always read to her from childhood, allowing her to escape into those magical worlds. The worst thing is, she has dyslexia, so even her passion to read has been stolen from her. But things are about to change.
After her genius grandfather invents a time machine, Katie is sure that time travel will solve all her problems. But when a rogue government agent steals the time machine, she is thrown into a battle for her life, an impossible love, and the safety of the entire planet. In the midst of chaos, will she survive? Her choices will change not only her destiny, but the destiny of the world.
